Going To War (The Saving The World With Robots Remix)

March 28th, 2015

Title: Enemy of the World (other posting locations here)
Author: Del Rion (delrion.mail (at) gmail.com)
Fandom: The Avengers (MCU)
Timeline: before/after “Age of Ultron”
Genre: Alternate universe, drama
Rating: T / FRT / PG-13
Characters: J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark (Iron Man), Vision, Tony’s bots (DUM-E and U). Also: Bruce Banner (Hulk), James “Bucky” Barnes (Winter Soldier), Happy Hogan, Harley Keener, Pepper Potts, James “Rhodey” Rhodes (War Machine), Steve Rogers (Captain America). Many other MCU characters mentioned.

Summary: After a war that lasted for ten grueling years, Ultron has finally been defeated. However, when Tony Stark reappears – presumed dead at the dawn of Ultron’s war on mankind – a frantic struggle begins between those who want to restrain him in order to protect their hard-won peace and Tony’s quest to comprehend how his actions could have allowed this alien future to be born.
Complete. Part of Genius, AI & Bots series (a ‘what if?’ AU related to the technopathy AUs and the story “The Ghost Attacks”).
Written for: Apocalypse Bang’s round 3.
Warnings: Canonical violence, language, character death (past/off-screen).

Teaser:

“Please step back from the door,” a voice said from the other side – jarringly familiar and making Tony back away further on instinct. In light of all that had already happened, he wasn’t sure whom to trust and what to believe anymore, so taking it in stride seemed like the best plan of action until he figured it out.

A massive boom startled him as something heavy hit the door. Neither seemed willing to give in, but another forceful strike from the outside finally made the door cave in, twisting it just enough to let it fall free of its frame and onto the floor. Tony felt the draft on his ankles and promptly looked up.

He had been unsure what to expect, even though his brain clearly had some preconceived idea of who was punching in the door of his holding cell. That was why he was surprised when he did not see an armor of red and gold, but a more humanoid shape instead, framed by the darkness. The mysterious glow from before was gone, leaving only some kind of residue that painted the edges of the figure as well as a weakly glowing set of blue eyes that didn’t look human in the lack of light.

“Who are you?” Tony asked. In between Steve and Bucky Barnes and a magically aged Harley, he felt like it might be best to start with introductions from now on.

“My name is Vision,” the other said – the familiarity of his voice resonating deep within Tony while his brain demanded it was an error. The voice belonged to J.A.R.V.I.S., from the tempo of his speech to the accent Tony had so carefully honed to perfection over the years. But the shape of this figure – this thing – was not that of his suit.

His suit most certainly never wore a cape, which he could see shifting behind the Vision character as he took a step forward to join him within the tiny room.

Rating: M / FRM
Characters: J.A.R.V.I.S., Happy Hogan, Pepper Potts, James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Tony Stark (Iron Man), Tony’s bots (DUM-E and U).
Summary: It is the first New Year’s Eve after Afghanistan, and Tony’s year is about to end with a bang – and a whimper.
Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: Hurt/Comfort Bingo’s (hc_bingo) round 5 (square: “post-traumatic stress disorder”)
Warnings: PTSD, panic attack, referenced past torture (with flashback to mock execution and water torture), language.

Teaser:

Moving to the smaller, unmanned bar on the far side of the room, Tony poured himself a drink. “All set for the fireworks?” he asked, voice barely reaching over the noises of the party.

“Preparations are finished and all is set,” J.A.R.V.I.S. responded, the speakers close enough that Tony could hear the AI. “However, I feel it is my responsibility to inform you that the pyrotechnic operators have opened a bottle of champagne.”

Tony chuckled. “It’s New Year’s Eve. Let them celebrate. Worst case scenario, we can have Dummy go out there and put out the fire.”

Title: The Chocolate Song (other posting locations here)
Author: Del Rion (delrion.mail (at) gmail.com)
Fandom: Iron Man (MCU)
Timeline: post-IM3
Genre: Fluff
Rating: K+ / FRC
Characters: J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark (Iron Man), Tony’s bots (DUM-E and U).
Summary: When Tony enters the shop, the bots are in the middle of some crazy-looking dance routine – and seem to be of the opinion that Tony will fit right in. Or: Tony will never, ever forgive J.A.R.V.I.S. for showing the bots that one music video.
Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: My card on Cotton Candy Bingo’s round 2 (square: “Imitate”)
Warnings: Language, questionable taste in music (opinions may vary).

Teaser:

When Tony walked down to the shop, he immediately noticed upon entering that a few things were not as he had left them: the lights were flashing like in a disco club, the hard metal riffs playing were not from any of his playlists, and the bots had cleared a space in the middle of the room where they were making very atypical swaying motions.

“J.A.R.V.I.S., do we have a bug in the system?” Tony asked with a frown, walking further inside.

“Not that I am aware of, sir,” the AI replied.

Title: In and On (other posting locations here)
Author: Del Rion (delrion.mail (at) gmail.com)
Fandom: Iron Man (MCU)
Timeline: from Iron Man to post-Iron Man 3
Genre: Fluff
Rating: T / FRT / PG-13
Characters: J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark (Iron Man). Mentioned: Pepper Potts, James “Rhodey” Rhodes (War Machine), Tony’s bots (DUM-E and U).
Summary: The numerous times when Tony slept in his suit – and the one time he slept on top of it.
Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: My card on Cotton Candy Bingo’s round 2 (square: “Sleeping on someone”)
Warnings: Language, implied canonical violence & brief, non-graphic description of injury.

Teaser:

The first time Tony fell asleep in the suit it was in the aftermath of his mission in Gulmira: the post-Atlantic flight was relatively long, the fight took a lot out of him, and it was entirely reasonable to presume he may have sustained a mild concussion to boot.

He’d had a tank fire on him, after all. How many people could say that and were still walking afterwards?

It was a totally cheap shot, anyway…
Title: As a Fish in the Sea (other posting locations here)
Author: Del Rion (delrion.mail (at) gmail.com)
Fandom: Iron Man (MCU)
Timeline: between The Avengers and Iron Man 3
Genre: General
Rating: K / FRC
Characters: Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Summary: Extending the freedom of flight to the exploration of oceans was only ever a matter of time and extensive testing.
Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: My card on Cotton Candy Bingo’s round 2 (square: “Paradise”)
Warnings: None

Teaser:

He had discovered the freedom of flight years prior, but so much of the Earth was covered in oceans that it was inevitable he would widen his scope beneath the surface.

At first it was more for work than pleasure; to see how his suit operated underwater. Navigating in the water was different, the resistance at different speeds and depths requiring calculations, different usage of the armor in order to steer and plenty of practice – and he had to take all of that under consideration before even getting to the actual navigation, because obviously he could not use all the same methods of seeing as he did in the air.

He moved into clearer waters to bypass that issue for a time, and that was where he slowed down for the first time, taking in his surroundings: the fish, the plants, and the world separated from the one above by such a simple yet hostile barrier.

Title: As a Bird in the Sky (other posting locations here)
Author: Del Rion (delrion.mail (at) gmail.com)
Fandom: Iron Man (MCU)
Timeline: Between Iron Man and Iron Man 2
Genre: General
Rating: K / FRC / G
Characters: J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Summary: Tony discovers, through the use of the Iron Man armor, that there’s much of the world he hasn’t seen yet, and that he is finally free to explore it all at will; to go where no man has gone before – or at least not very often, and certainly not in the way in which he’s capable.
Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: My card on Cotton Candy Bingo’s round 2 (square: “Clouds”)
Warnings: None

Teaser:

Experiencing flight had long fascinated mankind, as proven by the long history of aviation.

Before his voyage flight in Mark II armor, Tony had flown in many different planes and contraptions, but never in an aircraft purely of his own design – a machine nobody else had tested before him.

The freedom the armor granted him did not truly sink in until months later, when the flying capabilities had been honed and his own skills enabled him to focus beyond the mechanics of flying – which were many, even with J.A.R.V.I.S.’s aid.

Title: You've Been Spiked (other posting locations here)
Author: Del Rion (delrion.mail (at) gmail.com)
Fandom: Iron Man (MCU)
Timeline: Between ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Iron Man 2’
Genre: Hurt/comfort, drama
Rating: M / FRM
Characters: J.A.R.V.I.S., Pepper Potts, Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Summary: Tony’s reputation doesn’t always work to his advantage – not when he’s emotionally outgrown said reputation but has to maintain the illusion of his playboy lifestyle. Enter a group of drunken women, a drink spiked with an ED drug and some post-Afghanistan ‘heart problems’ – not to mention an offended AI – and the recipe for disaster is nigh complete. As expected, Miss Potts will be there to mop up the mess.
Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: A plotbunny/prompt given to me by starkind (FF.net)
Also fills a square on my card on Hurt/Comfort Bingo’s round 5 (square: “drugged”)
Warnings: Light sexual references & unwanted sexual propositioning, drunkenness & irresponsible drunken behavior, drink spiking, medical issues, language.

Teaser:

“Sir,” J.A.R.V.I.S. spoke up while he was still in the middle of it. “I must notify you that your guests are engaging in undesired behavior.”

“Are they getting undressed again?”

“No, sir.”

“Are they trying to get into the shop?”

“No.”

“Then I’m not concerned,” Tony decided.

“But, sir –”

Title: Gewgaw (other posting locations here)
Author: Del Rion (delrion.mail (at) gmail.com)
Fandom: Iron Man (MCU)
Genre: Family, fluff
Rating: K / FRC
Characters: J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark (Iron Man), Tony’s bots (DUM-E and U)
Summary: Tony’s been busy as Iron Man ever since he revealed his superhero identity. The bots have missed him – and come up with a crafty new way to show their affection.
Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: My card on Cotton Candy Bingo’s round 2 (square: “weird affectionate gesture”)
Warnings: None.

Teaser:

As much fun as being in the suit was, there were some kinks Tony needed to work out before he got in it again – or finished Mark IV, which was high on his list of priorities.

He really didn’t need the bots causing havoc around him just so that he would pay attention to them – a tactic that worked to a degree and was glaring enough in its transparency that Tony didn’t suspect the bots needed an upgrade to their precision sensors.

Then the bracelets happened.

Characters: Tony Stark, Tony’s bots (DUM-E and U). Mentioned: J.A.R.V.I.S., Pepper Potts, James “Rhodey” Rhodes.

Complete. Part of “Genius, AI & Bots” series.
Written for: My card on Cotton Candy Bingo’s round 2 (square: “towel”)
Warnings: Briefly mentioned injuries.

Teaser:

The guard spent two weeks in a hospital and received a huge bonus afterwards.

Tony got minor burns on his hands which were nothing compared to the smarting hurt of distrust.
